Bronze whaler and the spearfisherman

A spearfisherman had an unexpected interaction with a bronze whaler off the coast of Queensland.  The men were out for a day of fishing when they found themselves in the midst of several sharks.  As they decide it would be better to get out of the waters, than try to fish with so many sharks around, one of the sharks swims up to one of the divers and pushed away with a spear.

It appears the prod of the spear actually ended up killing the shark as it immediately begins to sink to the bottom.  At first it appeared that the diver may have fired at the shark, but with closer review of the video, both the tip and spear are still attached to the gun. In addition if the diver had shot the shark, then there would be a line connecting the spear and gun.

Attempting to shoot a shark with a speargun is extremely dangerous. Sharks skin is normally extremely tough to penetrate.  Should the spear actually penetrate the shark and not kill it, then the shark may try to defend itself and the diver could be in serious trouble.  Not only that, but a wounded or killed shark may attracted more sharks to the area.
