Shark attack in the East China Sea

A sailor has been bitten by a shark in the East China Sea on Saturday.

The 26-tonne Taiwanese fishing boat “Cheng Tsai Li” was found drifting approximately 65km northeast of Japan’s Okinawa prefecture by the island Miyako-jima.

Hsieh Ching-chin a spokesman for the coastguard said the unidentified man “was injured, suffering from shark bites”.

Other crew members including the captain and three sailors have yet to be located.

Four vessels, two from Japan and two from Taiwan are launching a search for the other crew members.

“We’re racing against time as the weather is cold,” Hsieh said.

While he is unsure what exactly occurred, it seems that the Cheng Tsai Li had a fire on board.
