Sea lion could not escape Alcatraz

A sea lion had severe troubles trying to escape from Alcatraz.

Unlike John and Clarence Anglin who escaped the prison in 1962, we know this sea lion did not make it to Brazil.

Meredith Coppolo Shindler posted the video on October 10th and it is the first known video of predation in the San Francisco Bay by an 8-10 foot Great White Shark.

Shark Stewards director David McGuire, isn’t overly concerned about a negative shark encounter.  In a statement he said: “The risk of shark attack is extremely low. Over eighty swimmers from the Dolphin Club and South End Rowing Club swam from Alcatraz last week, and another race is scheduled for next weekend. It is up to the leadership what to do, but I suspect this shark is well fed.”

He added “For me it’s pretty exciting and a sign that the health is returning to the San Francisco Bay ecosystem”.
