Shark bite at Jacksonville Beach

Kaley Szarmac was bitten by a 4-foot  blacktip shark on Wednesday at Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

The 10-year-old was in waist-deep water just before 3:30pm when she was bitten on her right leg.

She told WJAX-TV “I just remember it bumping me, and I turned around and it was on my leg and you could see the whole tail thrashing around.”

Even though she suffered lacerations right under her knee, she went back into the water to ensure her 6-year-old friend made it out of the water safely.

Kaley was taken to Wolfson Children’s hospital where she received 90 stitches.

Thankfully she has no permanent damage and is ready to get back in the water.

The location has been marked on the 2015 shark attack bites tracking map.

On June 26, a female reported being bitten by a shark along the same beach.
