Surfer loses leg to shark

Caleb Swanepoel lost his leg to a shark today in South Africa.

The 19-year-old surfer was out in Buffels Bay when the shark bit his right leg off above the knee and left lacerations on his left leg.

Fellow surfers were able to help him from the water.

Thankfully  local doctor Dee Richmond was at the beach and provided immediate first aid.

Mr Swanepoel was airlifted to the George Medi-Clinic in serious but stable condition.

According to News24, the bite is suspected to be from a Great White shark.

Just yesterday another surfer was bitten in SA.

Please keep Mr. Swanepoel in your thoughts and prayers.

This is the forty-third shark bite worldwide, six of which were fatal, two were out of water and three currently unconfirmed.

The location has been marked on the 2015 shark attack bites tracking map.
