Tiger Shark Saved in Hawaii

Beachgoers help save a tiger shark in Hawaii.

The shark was apparently entangled in fishing line and was struggling in the water.

Several swimmers went to the aid of the shark and brought it to shore to remove the fishing gear.

After removing the entanglement they were able to successfully return the shark to the water.

Thankfully no one was injured in the rescue you efforts.

Sharks or mano, are respected by the Hawaiian culture and there are many  legends about the creatures.

One such legend is the story of a man name Kahikina. One day Kahikina went fishing off the coast of Ka‘ū and was attacked by two large tiger sharks or nihi. After crying for help another small green shark came and fought the two tiger sharks. After the two niuhi left, the shark help Kahikina back to shore.

The following day Kahikina came back to thank the shark with an offering of awa root. He then cleaned the shark and the two became great friends.
