16yo bitten by shark on Spanish beach

A 16-year-old young man was bitten on the right hand by a shark while playing in the water in Salou Spain. He was floating on an inflatable raft in the shallows when the bite, which required 30 stitches, occurred. Witnesses on the beach could not be positive of the type of shark, but some described it as a Blue Shark.

Blue shark attacks and bites on humans are rare. According to the International Shark Attack File only 13 confirmed incidents have occurred from 1580-2013, though 4 of which were fatal.

It is estimated that 10 to 20 million blue sharks are killed each year as a result of fishing.
