Could a Bull shark sink a shrimp boat?

Captain Roger Schmall was around 100 miles off Fort Myers Beach, Florida January 25 when his boat was attacked by a group of bull sharks.

Schmall said the sharks had been hitting his shrimping boat, Christy Nichole, for days as they ate bycatch tossed overboard.

The fisherman, who is familiar with sharks following his boat, got a surprise when a 14-foot bull shark smashed into his vessel around 3 a.m.

The force of the impact broke the Christy Nichole’s tail shaft and propeller, leaving the boat adrift and sinking.

Schmall radioed for help and his friend Henry Gore came to his aid about two hours later.

The good Samaritans began towing the boat, while Schmall stayed onboard pumping out water.

Eventually, the water was too much, and the Christy Nichole sank.

Schamll is debating as to what to do next and may leave the profession permanently.
