Man arrested for harpooning mako shark

Russell Robert Stewart III has been arrested for allegedly taking a 505-pound short finned Mako shark with a harpoon off the coast of Panama City Beach Florida. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received an anonymous tip that someone had posted a video to Facebook where a shark had been harpooned. Swimmer dies from shark bite

A 52-year-old* German man was swimming in the Red Sea March 21, when he was attacked by a shark. The incident took place off Al-Qusair, Egypt where the unidentified man was snorkeling near the bay of Coraya. A suspected mako shark charged the man and severed his foot. A witness in a zodiac boat saw the incident occur and went to aid the victim. He saw the shark pull the man under the water and then drug him around 100 yards. 600lbs Mako caught off Panama City Beach FL

Post by Off The Beach Shark Fishing Trips. Matthew Pemberton reeled in a 600lbs mako shark off Panama City Beach, Florida. The 10-foot Mako shark took seven men an hour and a half of reel in on Friday. They try to fish on the East end of the beach where there aren’t swimmers. The shark will be eaten by the men’s friends and family. Last week a great white shark was caught in the same area.

Man kills Mako shark

A fisherman calling himself “Original Fishkiller”  was filmed killing a Mako shark and posting the video online. The Northland commercial fisherman kills the shark by hitting with a blunt object. I am not going to post the video, but it can be seen at stuff.co.nz along with more information. Mako sharks are slow to reproduce and the way the shark was killed is not very humane.

580lbs Mako caught

A 580lbs mako shark measuring nearly 10 ft was caught in the Gulf of Mexico last Friday. The group from North Dakota chartered with Captain Kevin Beach from Venice, Louisiana. Landon Rachel of Jamestown, N.D fought with the shark for an hour before it expired. Captain Beach told the Houston Chronicle “We tried to let the fish wear itself down and then we went ahead and harvested him,” This is the 4th largest Mako caught from Louisianan.  The meat was sent to the clients in North Dakota.

10 ft Mako shark found in Wales

A 10ft-long Mako shark has been discovered washed up on Barmouth Beach beach in north Wales. The shark was found by fisherman on Friday and its cause of death is unknown.  Mako’s are generally found in tropical waters. The photo above was taken by Gwion Leggett who had some good news on his FB page “I overheard local kids yesterday talking about becoming Marine Biologists.”  So the death of an awesome shark has sparked the interests of some young minds, possibly helping sharks in the future.
