A man was been bitten by a shark in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

FLorida-shark attack

Nolan Tyler was surfing on Thursday when he was bitten on the right foot.  The 22-year-old was in hip-deep water around 10 feet away from his surfboard when he was bitten.

“And as soon as it bit, I kind of like jumped back and the thing spooked out, and it actually ended up thrashing his body and hitting me in the leg and it scurried off” he told WFTV.com

Lifeguards were able to patch up the bite wound, which was caused by a black tip shark.

“Got a few stitches. It nipped the tendon on my pinky toe, and gosh man, it was freaking crazy,” Nolan said.

He only plans on being out of the water until his injuries heal.

“Every time you surf, you know they are out there. It’s pretty much a matter of where and when you know. Just hit the lottery,” He added.

This is the fifth in New Smyrna Beach and the 53rd shark attack bite worldwide of 2016.  Five of  which were fatal. Twenty-three reported in the US, with fifteen occurring in Florida. Eleven have occurred in Australia, three of which were fatal.

All locations have been marked on the 2016 shark attack bites tracking map.
