Snorkelers came across the fish as it was struggling to free its self from a piece of derelict fishing net off Ao Chaloklum in North Koh Phangan.

Abandoned fishing nets are called ghost nets as they just float around the world’s oceans where fish and other marine animals can become entangled.

Thankfully the snorkels spotters this black-blotched porcupine and were able to free using a piece of broken glass.

The fish has a buddy that sticks by its side until the man is able to free it.

Once the net is gone, the fish struggles some, but appears to be OK as it swims off with its little friend.

Earlier this year, a video of a diver removing a rope from a whale shark was published on the internet.  The rope appeared to cause damage to the shark’s skin and had it not been removed, may have killed the shark.

Trash has created serious issues to the world’s marine population.

One huge problem is the disposal of plastics. Plastic breaks down into smaller bits of plastic that tiny fish eat, then bigger fish eat the little fish and then we eat the bigger fish.

Plastic bags have also been found wrapped around sea turtles and plastic forks embedded in their noses. Floating bags Birds have died after eating debris found floating in the water and left on the beach. Turtles have become entangled in six pack holders and as they grow their shells grow oblong as the plastic cuts into their sides.

One simple way to prevent issues like this is to recycle whenever possible. If you see trash or litter on the beach, dispose of it properly, even if it isn’t yours.

If we all work together, we can make the oceans cleaner.
