Scuba diver killed in Queensland shark attack

Mr. Tratt was killed by a shark in New South Wales.

A spearfishing scuba diver has died after being attacked by a shark in Queensland, Australia.

Matthew Tratt, 36, was diving with his brother off Fraser Island in a spot called Indian Head July 4, when he was bitten by a great white shark.

His brother pulled him out of the water and onto the rocky shore. An off-duty doctor and nurse along with bystanders administered first-aid for about an hour until rescue personnel arrived.

Authorities responded to the scene just after 2 p.m. local time.

Medics were winched down from an RACQ rescue helicopter, but the father of two had succumbed to the injuries.

This is the fourth fatal shark attack in Australia this year.

Robin Pedretti, 60 was surfing off Salt Beach, New South Wales June 7. He was fatally injured by a great white shark.

A second, also in NSW, occurred April 6. Zach Robba, 23, sustained fatal injuries off a remote North West Island.

Scuba diver Gary Johnson, 57, was killed off Cull Island off Esperance Jan. 5.

All locations have been marked on the 2020 Shark Attack Map.

It is clear that now when states, nations and the world are slowly opening up and people once again are coming out of lockdown, the wild, which once had their homes where population is, were repopulating these areas because of less human “invasion” and intrusion. At times I wish we’d still be on lockdown, so nature can be free to roam as they once pleased and did! Who are we to take their homes? Let them be if you’re not able to respect them and coexist! 🤬
