The unidentified woman was in the water at Killick Creek off Crescent Head seaside village April 21.

Around 8 a.m. she was bitten on the foot by a shark.

The woman reportedly had 4 deep lacerations and was treated on-scene.

Local authorities closed the beach, but after a few hours, reopened it.

Photographs of the wound indicate a wobbegong shark was involved.

Wobbegongs are part of the carpet shark family and, like their family member nurse sharks,  tend to be docile.  However, they will bite when they feel threatened.

There are about two wobbegong shark bites reported in Australia each year.

The approximate location has been marked on the 2020 Shark Attack Map.
