Two watermen are recovering after being injured by sea creatures.

In Georgia, a surf instructor is recovering after being bitten on the leg by a shark.

Yamada Atsush,58, was watching his students on July 27, off Tybee Island. Around 12 p.m. one of the students started to drift away.

Atsush, who goes by the name Sushi, paddled over to the girl who had drifted about 50 yards from shore with the tide.

Sushi was sitting upright on his 9 foot surfboard as he helped reorient the student, when a shark grabbed his left leg.

“It felt like I got hit by the baseball bat, that real hard quick,” he told Tracking sharks. Adding it was similar to a dog bite, but much stronger.

He quickly alerted his 15 companions and other users to leave the water.

Not wanting to traumatize any beach goers, the pro snow skier waited until everyone was safely on the beach and medical personnel arrived before exiting the water.

He was taken to the hospital, where doctors cleaned and wrapped up the wound. He met with a surgeon today, who said the wound should heal up naturally.

Sushi is keeping a positive outlook and is extremely thankful that all his students and instructors are okay.

“I am just so thankful the shark picked me not anyone else once,” he said.

He plans on getting back in the water as soon as possible and sharing his love of surfing with anyone ready to hit the waves with him.

He was able to kick off the fish and made it back to the beach. The man was treated on scene before being taken to a medical clinic for further examination.

Beaches were temporarily shut down and reopened around 2p.m.
